Dream Haven is the longstanding brain child of Dr. Rasheda L. Weaver, whose mission in life is to create and examine the efficacy of programs and services that foster sustainable community economic development.
As an award-winning researcher and educator, Dr. Weaver is dedicated to using her expertise in entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as in community development, to create positive social change in the world.
Her passion for combatting social issues comes from experience. She is a first-generation American of Jamaican and Cuban descent that has made a successful, abundant life for herself after growing up in an impoverished neighborhood in the Bronx, New York.
Today, Dr. Weaver uses her knowledge and skills to train future generations of change agents as an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Iona College’s Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. In addition, she has worked with more than 30 businesses and nonprofit organizations on projects related to start-up consulting, fundraising, strategic planning, and community needs assessments. Dr. Weaver is also the Creator of Weaver’s Social Enterprise Directory, a national public directory for businesses that aim to combat social problems in the United States.
She received her PhD and an MS in Public Affairs-Community Development from Rutgers University, graduated valedictorian from New York University’s (NYU) Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development with a Master of Arts in Applied Psychology, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Herbert H. Lehman College where she graduated magna cum laude.
In her spare time, Dr. Weaver practices yoga, is an avid salsa dancer, and loves to spend time with her large group of family and friends.
